Dan was probably the greatest kicker ever seen in rugby, but was also a splendid link between the New Zealand backs and forwards. He mainly played for Canterbury and the Crusaders, but in the later part of his career he appeared for Perpignan and Racing 92 in France and also played in Japan. He is still the highest points scorer in test history with 1,598 points. He was voted World Player of the Year in 2005, 2012 and 2015. Many experts rate him as the greatest fly half of all time. He remained a quite shy and quiet man. When New Zealand beat the British Lions 48-18 in 2005 he scored 33 of the points. He scored 19 points on NZ’s 34-18 win over Australia to capture the World Cup in 2015.
