He went on to win the European Championships of 1966 and the Commonwealth Games of both 1966 and 1970. He was also a fine sprinter and took part in the 100 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay in the Olympics. He twice won the BBC TV Sports Personality of the Year (1964 and 1966) and from 1973-1976 was the technical director of Canadian Athletics. He became President of the Members\u2019 Council of UK Athletics. In Wales he represented Roath Harriers (Cardiff) and Cardiff AAC. He has lived in Cardiff for many years. His best long jump was 27 feet 0 inches and he ran 10.51 seconds for the 100 metres. He is the son of a coal miner and was educated at Ogmore Grammar School and the then Cardiff Training College at Cyncoed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div
